Aurora

Aurora has moved from Assess to Adopt. Use it instead of standard Amazon RDS for new production relational database workloads, and migrate existing RDS workloads where compatible and practical.

Amazon Aurora is a cloud-native relational database service with PostgreSQL and MySQL compatibility.

We adopted Aurora in June 2024 as preparation for new board releases, currently using it for one database in our Query engine. We had a previous ADR but never adopted it at that time.

We are not actively evaluating broader migration from RDS to Aurora, despite recognizing the value. No current guidance has been given to migrate all RDS instances to Aurora.
